“Share stories. Words have power. You never know where yours will go.” – The Editors
RESILIENCE, GRATITUDE, LOVE…Not the stories you would expect from a 9/11 anthology, but what you get from THE FAMILIES.
THE FAMILIES is a collection of essays by 176 family members, survivors, and witnesses whose lives were forever changed by September 11, 2001. Edited by Edith Lutnick and Caroline Aiken Koster, the anthology shares stories of love, loss, resilience, gratitude, healing, service, and hope.
Cantor Fitzgerald’s headquarters occupied the 101st through 105th floors of One World Trade Center, now called the North Tower. When American Airlines Flight 11 struck at 8:46 a.m. on September 11, 2001, our employees were above the impact zone. No assistance could reach them. They became heroes to each other. Every person on those floors that morning was killed. In total, 658 of the firm’s 960 New York employees died – becoming the single greatest loss suffered by any organization that day.
Each of their families has a story worth reading and remembering.
These voices share what they want the next generation to carry forward. Their stories compose a mosaic of grief, resilience, grace and a promise kept, that no one will be forgotten. We will always remember.
All proceeds from sales of THE FAMILIES will be donated to the Relief Fund. The book was self-published so that 100% of profits could assist our charitable mission.
THE FAMILIES contains historical photographs of the World Trade Center, Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund assistance in the aftermath, WTC steel and memorial, rebuilding and disaster relief efforts in later years. The editors included 19 lessons learned for anyone experiencing grief or loss or seeking advice on the many ways people keep living after experiencing profound loss.
