At a time where staying at home means saving lives, we’re determined to make our annual Charity Day tradition continue. So, we’re heading online!

Each year on September 11, we welcome luminaries from the worlds of entertainment, politics, and sports on to our trading floors around the globe, raising millions of dollars annually for the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund.

All revenues from Charity Day are donated to the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and the charities we support. We started this tradition to commemorate the lives of the 658 Cantor Fitzgerald friends and colleagues, and 61 Eurobrokers employees we lost on 9/11, 2001. So far, we have raised approximately $159 million.

This year, Charity Day will have a twist: it will be hosted on a virtual platform. We want you to stay safe, stay home if you can, and join us. You can donate to the Fund here: https://www.cantorrelief.org/donate-now/.

For additional information regarding the event, please contact the Charity Day Team by emailing charityday@cantor.com.

In honor of the 15th Anniversary of 9/11, Town & Country Online Magazine published an online article titled “How Cantor Fitzgerald Survived September 11″.  This article features interviews with The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund’s President and Co-Founder, Edie Lutnick, along with Cantor Family member Susan Esposito-Lombardo, and Cantor survivor and current employee Dave Kravette.  The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund is so grateful for all we have been able to accomplish in the past 15 years, and we remain committed to doing good in commemoration of our loved ones. We will never forget.

Read the article on Town & Country Magazine Online here.

The History Channel is currently showing “15 Septembers Later,” a documentary marking the 15th Anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center.  The documentary premiered on Monday, September 5th at 9:00 p.m. EDT.

The film examines the historic events of that day, bringing to bear declassified audio and video footage that emerged since September 11, 2001.  The documentary is thought-provoking, however some of the footage can be graphic.

The portion of the documentary dedicated to The Cantor Fitzgerald story features interviews with Howard Lutnick, Edie Lutnick, and Harry Waizer, a Cantor employee who survived life-threatening injuries during the attacks.  The Cantor story can be seen about an hour in, at approximately 01:05 to 01:10.

“15 Septembers Later” also includes conversations with President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, former NYC Mayor Rudolf Giuliani and many others.

On Sunday, September 18th, 2016, The New York Times highlighted The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund’s 2016 Charity Day in print and online, with a 9-photo feature.  Click here to read the full article.

The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) makes it impossible for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, or any other entity, to claim that as a sovereign it is immune from any legal responsibility for its role in the 2001 terror attacks.  This legislation is imperative in the efforts to finally see justice for the 9/11 victims.  Led by Senators John Cornyn (R-TX) and Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and their staff, JASTA was passed by the U.S. Senate unanimously on May 17, 2016.

The passage of JASTA is currently pending in the House of Representatives for consideration.  We ask the one hundred thousand 9/11 victims and their family members for their assistance in pushing for JASTA’s passage in the house.  To support JASTA, it is essential that each person do the following:

1. Contact (in person, by phone, email, or mail) your incoming Congress man or woman (the person elected to start in January) and urge him or her to pass JASTA immediately in the new Congress.  You can find the contacts here.  Please visit the JASTA website for details, phone numbers, and suggested language, plus current news and progress JASTA is making.

2. Encourage each family member (parent, siblings, children, cousins, nieces/nephews, or grandparent/grandchild) to contact their Congress men and women and urge the passage of JASTA.  Each of you should state that no one (country, entity, or person) should have immunity for providing the material support al-Qaeda needed to mount the 9/11 attacks.  We believe that all countries, persons or organizations who supported al-Qaeda should be held responsible.

Thank you for your time and consideration in helping us with JASTA.  “Not every terrorist kills for money, but money is needed for terrorists to kill.” – Terry Strada, National Chair, 9/11 Families & Survivors United for Justice Against Terrorism

Event date: November 16th

On Friday evening, the world witnessed another set of incomprehensible attacks against a city filled with people simply going about their lives. In an instant, so many innocent men and women were brutally killed or injured by terrorists. For this to happen in Paris – a vibrant city known for light, life, and love – is beyond all measure of tragedy. As 9/11 Memorial Chairman, Michael Bloomberg, noted, these are “despicable acts of terrorism that only strengthen our resolve to defeat forces of fear and hatred.”

In a show of support for the people of Paris, the National September 11 Memorial will hold a gathering as we stand united with France at the 9/11 Memorial on Monday, November 16 at 2:30 p.m. (#UnitedwithFrance) to pay tribute to those who were killed in the Paris terrorist attacks, those who were injured, and the first responders who confronted terror and tragedy with incredible bravery. We welcome all those who wish to pay their respects and show support for France during this difficult time.

The gathering will take place near the Survivor Tree on the Memorial. If you plan to attend the gathering, please arrive no later than 2:15 p.m. Items of tribute such as flowers in blue, white, and red will be distributed and you are also welcome to bring your own personal tributes to place at the Memorial and share your messages of support online using #UnitedwithFrance. There is no more fitting site to demonstrate the solidarity between our two nations, and I encourage you to join us.

In the wake of these attacks in Paris, it’s difficult to avoid the painful memories of 9/11. For the people of the United States, and particularly for those of us here in New York, who have also experienced tremendous loss on our own soil, it’s important to remember the strength we can share with each other and how much of a force for good we can be when united. After 9/11, so many nations reached out to support our country, and now, it’s our turn to demonstrate the solidarity between the U.S. and France. In the face of utter depravity, we stand together for Paris, united through compassion and kindness.

The Justice Aganist Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) makes it impossible for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, or any other entity, to claim that as a sovereign it is immune from any legal responsibility for its role in the 2001 terror attacks.  This legislation is imperative in the efforts to finally see justice for the 9/11 victims.  Led by Senator Charles Schumer and his staff, JASTA was passed by the U.S. Senate on December 11, 2014.

The passage of JASTA will be debated by the current House of Representatives in Washington, D.C. on January 5, 2015.

Each of you should state in your own words that no one (country, entity, or person) should have immunity for providing the material support al-Qaeda needed to mount the 9/11 attacks.  We believe that all countries, persons or organizations who supported al-Qaeda should be held responsible.

2. Have each family member (parent, siblings, child or grandchild) contact their Congress men and women and urge passage of JASTA.  You can find the contact here.

3. Finally, we ask that you contact Senator Charles Schumer and his assistant Emily Amick to thank them for their extraordinary efforts in passing JASTA in the Senate, particularly in the face of strong opposition.  They can be reached here.

Lester’s will donate 10% of all purchases made on Saturday, December 13, 2014 to The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund.  Please tell the cashiers at checkout that you are there to support The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund.  100% of the money raised will go directly to assist amputee soliders and their families.

Edie Lutnick, Co-Founder and President of The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and author of An Unbroken Bond, spoke at Raritan Valley Community College (RVCC) and moderated a panel featuring a distinguished group of 9/11 leaders on Thursday, November 13th at 6:30 pm. The program, which was free and open to the public, was held in the Conference Center at the College’s Branchburg Campus.

Edie Lutnick has been called “one of the most powerful and respected leaders in the wider Sept. 11 charitable community” by the Wall Street Journal, and a “hero” by President Obama. ‎ The title that resonates most with her however is “Cantor family.”

Panelists included Anthony Gardner, Patricia Reilly, Charles Wolf, Diane Horning, Bill Keegan, and Juliet McIntyre. They are a mix of 9/11 survivors, first-responders, and family members who advocate on behalf of those who lost their lives that day.

For Lutnick and the panelists, their personal losses and experiences not only changed their lives, but the course of history and how the story of 9/11 and its aftermath would be told. They have influenced everything they encountered – – from healing, to charitable giving, to public policy – – and attendees heard firsthand how these extraordinary leaders helped to shape what we see today as the September 11th Memorial and Museum.

Following the panel discussion, Edie signed her book for attendees, with proceeds of the book sale benefitting The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and the RVCC’s Victims of the World Trade Center Scholarship Fund. Earlier in the day, at 1:00 PM on November 13, Edie Lutnick spoke as part of the TD Bank Student Leadership Development Series in the RVCC Atrium to discuss her book An Unbroken Bond. Lutnick told her story of loss, leadership, advocacy, and resilience as she and the families of the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund victims created An Unbroken Bond.To listen to Edie’s speech as a podcast, click hereTo listen to the entire panel as a podcast, click hereTo view photos from the event, click here

When you visit the National September 11 Memorial and lay your hand on the name of one of the 658 Cantor Fitzgerald men and women who perished on 9/11, we would like you to know how that name came to be placed.

We were given the right by Memorial officials to list our employees’ names together on the North Tower pool (1 World Trade Center) as long as they appeared to the general public to be randomly grouped. Our charge became to imbue a random-appearing listing of names with as much meaning as possible. How do we capture a father/daughter relationship, the closeness of the foreign exchange desk, the golf buddies, the best friends, the wives, husbands, cousins, the in-laws, those who commuted together and the close work relationships that overlay them all?

Cantor Fitzgerald’s view is that you spend so much of your life working that you should work with people you like. So everyone hired family members and friends if they were qualified. They hired their best friends, relatives and everyone they liked with potential. It was as true of the security guard as it was the senior executives.

Each life told a story through their relationships. How were we to make the display of the names of those we loved have meaning by their placement alone? How could the names’ placement at their final resting place give peace to our families absent any additional words beyond their name?

The task was daunting, and our commitment to meaningfully memorialize our employees was every bit as strong as the commitment for Cantor to survive and thrive to take care of the victims’ families. Every relationship would be captured to the best of our ability. Every name would be surrounded by the names of those for whom they cared.

It didn’t happen in a day. We began by asking the surviving employees to re-create departmental layouts, seating placements, department and desk interactions, and relationships and friendships between employees. Then we contacted the families and asked them to tell us the names of people important to their family member. We harvested information collected by the Memorial. Many spouses thanked us for letting them know about work relationships of which they were unaware. Family members told us who went to high school or college with whom, who was a child’s godfather, who was the go-to young woman or man, or the admired colleague. Conversation by conversation, we incorporated the stories of their lives into the placement arrangement. The considered placement of every name is a testament to the close-knit community that makes up our company’s family.

Each name was written on an index card. Departmental lists were re-created. We surrounded each person’s name with names that had been important to them. Each addition or subtraction required starting over, so that each panel, each wall, each connection was correct. We created countless layouts. It had to be as perfect as we could make it. Each new piece of information was incorporated.

Layouts were reviewed by surviving employees. Then we created a computer program so we could show the adjacencies and relationships by adding lines between the names. It allowed us to print out a model of our two entire sides and two corners of the North Tower pool for a final review by the survivors. Then we submitted our final layout to the Memorial.

The considered placement of each and every name is a testament to the close-knit community that makes up the Cantor Fitzgerald family, and the high esteem in which we hold those we have lost.

So when you visit the September 11 Memorial, go to the North Pool. View the “random-appearing” names.

They are anything but. Our two corners have sets of siblings on them and the walls between those brothers are all Cantor Fitzgerald people.

Know as you touch a name that it has lovingly been placed to reflect a lifetime of relationships and to give peace to the families. By touching their name and looking at those who surround them, you will embrace their history.

The Oklahoman

MOORE — No one knows loss better than the employees of Cantor Fitzgerald, the financial services firm that lost 658 of its 960 New York employees in the World Trade Center attacks.

“That’s why there was no question but that we would help the victims of the May 20 tornado,” said Howard Lutnick, chief executive officer of Cantor Fitzgerald and BGC Partners Inc.

Lutnick, his wife, Allison, sister Edie Lutnick and dozens of volunteers with the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund came to First Baptist Church in Moore on Monday to personally hand out $1,000 gift cards to each family who had a child in the Moore Public School district at the time of the May 20 tornado and whose home was damaged or destroyed. Volunteers said more than 1,000 families were eligible for the cards.

Maranda Owens said she would use her gift to help replace one of two vehicles that were lost in the tornado along with her house and belongings.

“I’ve replaced most of the belongings except for the cars, and this will go a long way in helping with that,” she said.

The mother of four said she rode out the storm with two of her children in a neighbor’s storm cellar. Her other two children were at school.

“Miraculously, no one was hurt. Not even our dogs. I was sure counting my blessings that night,” she said.

Owens said she was touched by the gift from Cantor Fitzgerald, especially after hearing about the company’s losses in the 9/11 attack.

Winfred Chiles, the father of two children, said the money will help with expenses that have accrued since the storm.

“I’m very grateful. This will really help out,” Chiles said.

Besides losing hundreds of co-workers and friends on 9/11, Howard and Edie Lutnick lost their brother Gary. Helping other disaster victims helps them deal with their loss, Edie Lutnick said.

“It is through personal support that individuals and communities begin to heal. In the wake of our losses on 9/11, many Oklahomans reached out to support us. It is our honor and privilege to be here today to help them,” Edie Lutnick said.

In the darkest days following the attack, Howard Lutnick said, “we knew we had to rebuild the company and find a way to help the families of the employees who perished in the attack. It was out of the depths of despair that my sister rose up and co-founded the relief fund.”

More than $180 million was raised through the fund to aid the families, and each year the fund continues to grow, Lutnick said.

Cantor Fitzgerald employees give up their salaries for one day each year on 9/11 and ask their customers to donate money to help others, particularly those who are victims of terrorism and natural disasters.

In the wake of Hurricane Sandy, the fund provided monetary gifts to families at 19 schools in the affected area, Howard Lutnick said.

“We decided immediately we wanted to provide that same kind of help to families in Moore,” he said. “We, more than anyone, understand the road to recovery may be long and difficult, and we wanted to help by putting money into the hands of parents, who can decide what is best for their families.”

U.S. Rep. Tom Cole said Oklahoma and New York are very different places “until you have a bad day.”

New York City residents were among the first relief workers to come to Oklahoma after the bombing of the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in 1995, Cole said. In turn, Oklahomans were quick to respond after 9/11, being among the first to travel to New York.

“It’s no surprise you have returned after this latest disaster,” Cole said. “We thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your compassion, care and help. Thank you for being here on our darkest days.”

March started off better at least for some families impacted by Hurricane Sandy on the Long Beach barrier island.

A long line formed outside Long Beach Middle School last Friday when Cantor Fitzgerald handed out more than 1,000 debits cards worth $1,000 each to local residents, as part of an estimated $1,350,000 that families from 19 schools in Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island, New Jersey and Long Island will receive throughout the month. About 1,350 families with a child that attends one of the five public elementary schools in Long Beach are eligible to receive the $1K debit cards from the financial firm, according to Newsday.

Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick and his sister, Edie, founded The Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund in 2001, after the company lost 658 employees in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center that September. Said Lutnick:

“Families can use this money in any way they see fit. It’s important to help those areas hardest hit by Sandy. Long Beach is a tough community, but insurance just isn’t coming in fast enough, so this is a little of what we can do to help these families rebuild their lives.”

Cantor Fitzgerald announced their donation plan in January. A firm spokesperson said plans are in the works to set up another date to distribute cards to the remainder of local eligible families.
